Virtual Band Camp Update

7/29/2020

The general consensus was that everyone liked the adjustment to the amount of time that we were spending on Zoom today. We are going to stick with the same time frame of 9:30-11:00am, but are  break down that time a little differently.  We are going to eliminate stretches to make a little more time for warm-ups and sectionals.

Tomorrow's (Thurs) Schedule
9:30am-9:45am  - Attendance, Announcements
9:45am-10:15am  - Break-Out Rooms for Music Warm-Ups
10:15am-11:00am - Sectionals

Part Assignments - If you aren't sure which part to play for a particular tune, check Google Classroom to find your part assignment.

Join Remind! - Text @fh2eh6 to 81010

I was really pleased with how everyone bounced back with a great attitude after we ran into some trouble on Tuesday.  Thank you for your patience as we continue to troubleshoot and "see" you tomorrow!

Daily Schedule for 2020 Virtual Band Camp

7/21/2020

Based on feedback from students and families, we are going to go with Option A - Morning only (9am-12pm) for our daily Band Camp schedule.  Band Camp will be held Monday-Friday starting next week from July 27th-31st and continuing on Aug 3rd-7th.  Students will need to make sure that they are available to meet virtually from 9am-12pm Monday-Friday for these two weeks!

Please click on the link below (or view the attached document) to view the daily schedule plan and a list of what students will need to have in order to participate remotely.

I will be sending more information out later this week regarding how to connect to the Marching Band Google Classroom which will contain all the links for the virtual Zoom meetings.  (I am aware that DPS has selected Canvas as the official Learning Management System (LMS); however, I feel it will be easier for me to start with Google Classroom and pivot over to Canvas once it is ready!)

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns that you have at this time!

PS:  Have you filled out the commitment form yet?  If not, click on the link to the Google form below.  At this time, we have just 32 responses and Virtual Band Camp begins next Monday, July 27th!

2020-2021 Auditions for Symphonic Band (Adv)

7/21/2020

If you are an incoming freshman, transfer student, or current Concert Band (Beg/Int) student, you may audition to be enrolled in Symphonic Band (Adv).  The Symphonic Band (Adv) course is designed for students who are seeking an opportunity to play more difficult literature and study more advanced musical concepts.  The Symphonic Band (Adv) course is also weighted as an Honors class, so students can earn up to a 5.0 towards their GPA.  If you are currently enrolled in Symphonic Band (Adv), you do not need to audition at this time!

In order to audition for Symphonic Band (Adv), you will need to submit an audio or video recording of yourself playing the requirements at the link below.  You may submit your scales and prepared selection as separate recordings for your audition.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Dp4FXu9xwWQTovLAaawf4CpWsT3c0xnhDn7T3OrUByc/edit?usp=sharing

Once you are finished making an audio or video recording(s) of yourself performing the scales and prepared selection, please submit the files through the Google Form listed below:
https://forms.gle/HbkBVHF3ATDxvaAG9

If you are having any problems with submission or have any other questions about the audition process, please contact the band director Mr. Mann at [email protected].   Best of luck!

Student Leadership for 2020 Marching Band

7/13/2020

First of all, I want to thank everyone that applied for a student leadership position in Marching Band.  This speaks on behalf of your commitment to making the band the best it can be!

I am excited to announce our student leadership for the upcoming 2020 Marching Band season:
WW Captain (Fl, Cl) - Dulce Flores-Olguin
WW Captain (Middle Voices) - John Rust
Brass Captain (High Brass) - Nick Chotas
Brass Captain (Low Brass) - Dylan Smith
Drumline Captain - Aliyah Moore
Pit Captain - Dorian Lineberger
Color Guard Captain - Sincere Livingston

You will notice that the position of Drum Major is not listed.  Upon reflection, I am concerned that this position does not have enough to do, because of the prospect of a lot of work being down remotely.  In place, I would like to offer conducting and leadership lessons to any students that are interested.  If we get an opportunity to perform, the students who applied for the position of Drum Major will be given priority to conduct the band in stand tunes!

PS:  Have you filled out the commitment form yet?  If not, click on the link to the Google form below.  At this time, we have just 18 responses and Virtual Band Camp is only 2 weeks away!

Commitment Form for Marching Band 2020 Season

7/6/2020

If you plan to participate in the Marching Band 2020 Season, please fill out the Commitment Form below.  If you are still unsure and would like additional information, you can indicate on the form and I will follow-up with your questions and concerns.  Please respond by Friday, July 17th!

https://forms.gle/nwAjtucbCgYiZRHS9

Virtual Band Camp is coming up very soon and will be held from July 27th-July 31st and Aug 3rd-7th.  We will not being doing a competitive field show this year and instead will be focusing on preparing music/routines to perform for athletic, school, and community events.  If these events are not possible, than we will simply enjoy the process of making music and spending time with another while continuing to develop new skills.

Our operating costs will be significantly less this year due to COVID-19.  I do not have a specific fee amount for you at this time.  If you make a commitment now, you will NOT be forced to pay these fees at a later date if you are unable to do so.  Every effort will be made on the part of myself and the RPBA (Riverside Pirate Band Association) to make this opportunity available to everyone regardless of financial circumstances.

Remember that Marching Band is considered a 5th Period class and you get credit of your transcript for participating!  Colleges/Universities want students who will be active members on their campus, so being in a Marching Band is a plus for college admission!  It is also fun :)
